Sup all 2009 is upon us.... and here is my kiten happs.. NJOI
JAN 27TH 2009: Me, Grant and Oliver went to Flat Island and it was kickin some serious ass... on my 7m and LIT UP. Wow been ages since i've been to FI and it was 10/10 yday. Just da 3 of us with da flat water section at mid tide....
JAN 19TH 2009: Grant rang me just as i was finishing work.. bout 11:30am. The plan was to go to the Kaipara Harbour!!! Never EVER kited there before. Me, Grant and Blair arrived there at about 3pm and greeted with one supreme spot. Once on da water though i wasn't so convinced as the little bay area was very gusty... but i did find out that it was becasue of the fact that it was over 30 knots and that my 7m was a tad too small for the bay area..... but once outside the bay it was CRANKING!!!! After while i decided that having JAWS music playing in my mind had worn thin and decided to head back in and be camera bitch. Heaps of people there... about 10 of us.... including Hendrick (with BIG kiteloops as allways). After a while on da sideline Grant ghave me a go of his 9m waroo 2007 and i was going much better now... frontroll judo airs going well... boostin nicely on da flx as well. So yeah a gr8 outing.
JAN 18TH 2009: Back to Pine Harbour!! omg been ages hee hee hee. It turned it on too. Pine Harbour is a major bread n butter kitespot.... not the steadiest of winds but by golly it works in lots of directions..... and gets all of the prevailing westerly winds. Anyway today was classic PH... pretty strong, gusty but still good quality wind. Definatelt heat affected in the arvo but was good at about noontime. Quite crowded too. Blair and his mates goin for it... we all had a great time. Was hooked in today but even then still found it hard in the lulls to stomp frontside judoairs..... lots and lots of backrolls to untwist my lines... but it didn't work... they were REALLY twisted. My bullaroo needs the trailing edge repaired. And i have a knots in one of my lines... so yeah things need work so will only kite if it's PUMPIN (so i can use the 7m waroo). I wanna get da 10m repaired by the time the next NE system comes... well ideally i want the 21m and da 11m repaired but lets be realistic hahahahahahahaha
Jan 17th 2009: Meola Reef!!!! yea boi. 2 kickass spots in 2 days. After allmost giving up lookin for da place i finally stumbled onto all da cars and kites lol. Grant, Paul and Adam were allready there. The launch is dicey and like shoal bay is best done NOT solo unless you do it grandmaster styles. Then once you do da slippery walk over oysters etc with your kite flyin all over da show you end up at da water... which is flat and PERFECT. Anyway the wind was a bit light but still pretty good. Heaps of people out and this is a great place to try new stuff. Kept it simple today but was unhookin a bit. The odd kiteloop. Every now and then i'd do a frontroll judo air. Still yet to set da bar up properly lol... no trim so yeah i'm one lazy bum hee hee hee.
Jan 16th 2009: Renton Rd!! Scored it... wasn't too bad... needed much more wind but at times it was good. Scored some nice channels, flat water and steady wind, good depth. Had a go of Adam's vegas and he had a go woith my bullaroo. The vegas is a sweet kite, nice and fast, great unhooked but with da depower of a bow kite... so yeah the new c kite's are impressive if your into new skool trix. definately suits more wind, then these kites will come into their own. Still keen on 5th lining my 05 Fuel so i can get some depower out of it. Grant and Paul were on their waroo's. we were all powered on occasions but certainly not crankin wind. You want it windy when you come here... 25 knots and over for guaranteed fun fun fun.
Jan 9th 2009: Waited for da wind meters to hit 15 knots and then headed to EB. Blair and his mates were there sittin on da bch but conditions not good for kiting... too many ppl, not enuf wind. Headed to Bramley where it was better but even then it dropped off and was puffy for da rest of da session. But what REALLY freeked me out was when i logged onmto da net from da beach and saw that Tamaki meters were firing at 17 knots!!! hahahaha normally when it reads that its CRANKIN at Bramley... and it certainly wasn't crankin today. I did however try a real nice lightwind board... blast from da past, learners board and i was headin upwind on it hahahaha... gotta love them big boards eh. Speakin of summer gear i'm still need a 5th line bar for that most excellent of kites the 21m bfk.... can't be arsed makin one... but can't be arsed buying one either hee hee hee
Jan 8th 2009: Looked quite promising so headed to Bramley, greeted with whitecaps but it was all downhill from there... at time there was allmost no wind at all and every other time it was a pretty crusty 10 knots.... expected the thermal 2 kik ass more than that lol... i blame the warm water.... um i mean that water was over 30 degrees hahahahaha but that's pretty normal for bramley at this time of year.
Anyway unhookin lots today but often no power to throw moves.... went for some raleys to blind as well as some L3s and a half assed attempt at a MEMI.... sounds more impressive than it really was hahahahaha. The Raleys to blind were more large pops... but the blind landing and da HP were still there lol.... the L3 was on da water (well da pass was hahahahahaha). Da MEMI had no power at all so unable to get any height to da Kung Fu and well i chickened out of da handlepass hahahaha... mmmmm some things never change lol.
But the highlite of da day was using Jonnys kiteboat... dat thing kix ass... riding it unhooked... but all turned to custard when i tried a standup handlepass hahahaha
